On 5 September 2026, the Vice President of India Shri. C. P. Radhakrishnan launched the India Valve Registry at India Valves 2026, which is a national academic meeting dedicated to improving the treatment of valvular and structural heart diseases held in Chennai. The Vice President, in his address to prominent cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, researchers and medical experts, emphasized that the collaboration of clinical expertise, scientific inquiry, innovation and teamwork represents a significant advancement when it comes to serving humanity.

He highlighted that behind every medical procedure, clinical decision and scientific innovation there is a patient who aspires to live longer, healthier and with dignity. Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan acknowledged remarkable progress that has been made in cardiovascular medicine. He noted that while valvular and structural heart diseases continue to pose significant challenges, advancements in medical science have fundamentally changed how these conditions are being treated.

Further, he placed emphasis on the fact that every advancement in medical science brings with it a fresh responsibility to ensure that its benefits are inclusive as well as accessible to everyone. He stated that healthcare is a human right and should be available to all. The Vice President described launch of India Valve Registry as a significant step in this direction. He explained that by systematically recording information on patients undergoing heart valve interventions along with their treatments and outcomes over time, a valve registry can transform individual clinical experiences into collective medical knowledge.

Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan highlighted how necessary it is to generate India-specific clinical evidence. He pointed out that several countries have developed national registries for advanced valve interventions and other cardiovascular procedures and he welcomed efforts to establish a similar collaborative initiative in India. According to him, such registries would aid in creation of “our country’s own data for our own countrymen” and would allow the medical community to better understand outcomes, identify challenges/gaps, learn from their experiences and enhance patient care.

Referring to the national goal of building a developed India (Viksit Bharat) by 2047, Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan emphasized that a developed India must also be a healthy India (Swasth Bharat). In conclusion, he called for collective efforts to create a healthcare ecosystem where innovation, technology and scientific progress are ultimately measured by their ability to improve the lives of humans.
