The Spices Board is a statutory body constituted w.e.f February 26th, 1987 under the Spices Board Act, 1986. It was made by merging the erstwhile Cardamom Board and the Spices Export Promotion Council under the administrative control of the Department of Commerce. The board is responsible for the overall development of the Cardamom industry and the export promotion of 52 spices listed in the schedule of the Spices Board Act, of 1986.

What is Spice Board?

The Spice Board is a flagship organisation for the development and worldwide promotion of Indian Spices. The board is a link between the Indian exporters and the importers abroad. The Spice Board came under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India and made quality and hygiene important for its development and promotional strategies.

The board has its headquarters in Kochi and in other regional laboratories in Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi, Tuticorin, Kandla and Guntur. Through these laboratories, the species board makes all the quality checks for spices exports in India. 

However, a new online campaign was started by the board to educate the people of India about the rich heritage of the country. This campaign is called the Spices Train. Also, the board sell the spices under the brand name ‘Flavourit’. This outlet is situated next to the headquarters of Spice Board in Kochi.

What is e-RCMC?

The RCMC stands for Registration Cum Membership Certificate. It is a certificate that provides validation to exporters for spices and it is valid only for five financial years. The Export Promotion Councils (EPCs) / Commodity Board / Development Authority or other competent authority in India functions as the Registering Authority to issue the RCMC. 

Any exporter who wants to obtain a license has to declare his mainstream business in the application. This application will be submitted to the related Registering Authority. In India, there are 26 Export Promotion Councils (EPCs) and 9 commodities boards. The EPCs are an important authority which issues RCMC, and the central government provide them with this authority. 

Through the RCMC portal, the exporter can apply for different services such as filing an application, renewal of a Spice Board Certificate, amendment in existing RCMS and view details of RCMS by providing IEC and at least three characters of the firm name.

What is Spice Board Registration Fees?

The registration fees for both categories are as follows:

Manufacturer Export

• New – Rs. 17,700/- (Rs. 15,000+ 18% GST).
• Amendment – Rs. 5900/- (Rs.5000+18%GST)

Merchant Exporter

• New – Rs. 11,800/- (Rs. 10,000+18% GST)
• Amendment – Rs. 59000/- (Rs. 5000+18% GST)
