WPC Certificate is a required essential for those wishing to import wires products for trade. In this article, we are going to take a closer look at what is WPC Certificate and how to acquire it.

WPC Certificate: Authorization that approves equipment in India

In all seriousness, a WPC certificate is an ETA or Equipment Type Approval. The Wireless Planning and Coordination Wing, in a bid to ensure that all imported wireless product follow particular regulatory standards, make this approval mandatory for importers. They are those who bring in foreign wireless equipment for trading them on Indian soil.

A different type of approval is necessary for importing products for personal usage. We will discuss them in our upcoming articles.

So, what is the main task of WPC, other than maintaining a regulatory course as far as wireless products are concerned? Well, the only other tasks it has been given is to issue amateur radio licenses, monitor the frequency spectrum and allocate the frequencies within that spectrum.

What is the importance of this license?

The reasons Wireless Planning and Coordination wing has set forth the guidelines for Equipment Type Approval are as follows:

  1. Ensuring that all products communicate with each other properly: Wireless products work as intended when they communicate with other devices. If that communication has issues, the product is considered defective.
  2. Maintaining national security: Products of wireless nature can often pose great danger to the security of the nation. Therefore, the Wireless Planning and Coordination wing has established strict guidelines to assess the internal architecture of wireless devices.
  3. Preventing intrusion of frequencies: Many devices work on de-licensed frequencies and if the user is not careful, such devices can intrude with the workings of other wireless articles. ETA certificate removes such intrusions.

What is the process to acquire WPC License?
