By using this portal, citizens can know the mobile connections issued in their name, get the connections not needed by them disconnected, block and trace lost mobile phones and check the authenticity of devices while purchasing a brand new or a second hand mobile phone. Let’s find out more about what the sanchar saathi portal is and its modules.

What is Sanchar Saathi Portal

Sanchar sathi com portal was launched by the Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in May, 2023. This portal was introduced by the Department of Telecommunications to combat cyber frauds and financial frauds related to mobile connections.

By using the Sanchar Saathi portal, citizens can verify the mobile connections registered using their names. Due to this facility, mobile users can make sure that mobile connections associated with their identity are precise and legitimate.

As per the Sanchar sathi com, an individual subscriber can acquire a maximum of nine mobile connections under their name from all the Telecom Service Providers in India. In J&K and North Eastern states, this restriction is six for subscribers. We will learn more about Sanchar Saathi by looking at its modules.

Sanchar portal offers citizen centric modules

Now, let’s learn about each module one by one.

CEIR

CEIR full form is Central Equipment Identity Register. It is a centralized system implemented by the Department of Telecommunications to manage and track mobile devices with the help of IMEI numbers. IMEI full form is International Mobile Equipment Identity. IMEI number refers to a unique 15-digit number that identifies a mobile device.

Using the CEIR portal, you can recover your phone. For this, you must register your mobile phone’s IMEI portal and provide all the required details. Using the CEIR portal will allow you to report and track your device’s approximate location. If you do not know your IMEI number, you can dial *#06# to find it out. Alternatively, you can check your device settings or the box in which your mobile phone arrived.

You can block your mobile number using CEIR. By doing so, the stolen mobile phone will not be able to enable network coverage with any mobile network company.

TAFCOP

TAFCOP full form is Telecom Analytics for Fraud management and Consumer Protection. It is a special service designed by the Telecommunications Department which allows mobile subscribers to report fake SIMs that have been taken by someone else in their name. No ID needs to be created to use TAFCOP.

If you want to find out the number of connections issued in your name using the TAFCOP portal, you must enter your mobile number, captcha and OTP received on your mobile. If you feel like there are any unnecessary or unauthorized mobile connections in your name, you can report them on TAFCOP.

RICWIN

The full form of RICWIN is Report Incoming International Call With Indian Number. This facility of the Department of Telecommunications empowers citizens to report incoming international calls that seem to originate from local Indian numbers beginning with +91.

RICWIN allows citizens to engage in active participation in helping the government detect and crack down on illegal or suspicious telecom activities. Fraudulent telecom setups typically involve bypassing legitimate telecom routes which leads to major financial losses for the government and poses a serious threat to national security of India.

When individuals report instances of receiving international calls with an Indian number on caller ID, they contribute to the identification and mitigation of fraudulent operations by fraudsters and scammers and help the government authorities and telecom service providers to take the required actions against the misuse of telecom services.

KYI

KYI full form is Know Your Wireline Internet Service Provider. This module of Sanchar Saathi allows the citizens to check the details of their Wireline Internet Service Providers (ISPs).

The citizens can use the KYI module of DoT to search for the presence of any ISP across the country by entering the ISP’s PIN code, name or address.

KYM

The full form of KYM is Know Your Mobile. Using the KYM module, the citizens can learn about the validity of the mobile device before even purchasing it. This module is a part of the CEIM portal.

The KYM portal requires IMEI number to provide details of the manufacturer, brand name and model name.

CHAKSHU

Chakshu is one of the essential modules of Sanchar Saathi website. It empowers the telecom users to report suspected fraudulent communications and prevent the instances of cyber fraud in India.

Whether you have received a suspected fraud communication through call, SMS or WhatsApp, you can report it on Chakshu. Fake customer care helplines, fraudulent bank accounts, deceptive payment wallets, sextortion and impersonation as a government official or relative are some examples of suspected fraud.

Once the Chakshu portal has received the report, the information is shared with law enforcement agencies, banks and other financial institutions to detect and prevent cyber crime. According to DoT, the usernames and details of suspected numbers and those reporting them will stay confidential.

Conclusion

An initiative of the DoT, the Sanchar Saathi is aimed at enhancing the security of the mobile users by prevention and detection of fraud. By using this portal, mobile subscribers can block or track their lost mobile phones. If an individual feels like they received a fraudulent call or text, they can report it on Chakshu which is a part of sanchaar sathi portal.
