How to Download IEC Certificate

IEC is short for Import Export Code. An IEC is basically a 10-digit code that the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) issues to businesses that want to import and export goods and services from India.

Once a business files an application for IEC code and the DGFT reviews and approves it, the business owner can then download IEC certificate. Check out this blog post if you want to find out how to download IEC certificate.

Purpose of IEC

An Import Export Code, abbreviated as IEC, is a key business identification number that must be mandatorily obtained by a business to export from India or import to India. A business cannot participate in export or import activities without obtaining IEC (unless specifically exempted by the Government of India).

When you obtain IEC for your business, you ensure compliance with international trade regulations. Additionally, you can access certain benefits under the Foreign Trade Policy like export incentives.

An IEC allows the government to track imports and exports and helps to regulate international trade.

Validity of IEC Certificate After Issuance

The IEC Certificate Registration is a one-time registration process. Once the DGFT portal issues the IEC certificate to a business, the certificate remains valid for an indefinite period and does not require any renewal.

With that being said, it is still mandatory for an import or export business to update its IEC details annually between April and June to maintain its active status and avoid deactivation.

Conclusion
