Purpose of DSC Certificate

A DSC Certificate is a legal alternative to a traditional ink signature. You can present it electronically to sign various forms and contracts digitally. You can also utilize the DSC to send encrypted emails to individuals and businesses. 

A DSC authenticates the details of a signer that are necessary to generate a digital signature. Moreover, a DSC is a highly secure file that stores the confidential/personal information of the signer. A person or organization must first register with a Certifying Authority (CA) in order to be eligible to digitally sign documents. Certifying authority refers to an institution licensed by the Controller of Certifying Authority (CCA) to provide digital signature certificates. 

For GST, income tax, e-procurement, EPFO filing, tender submissions, and many more purposes, a class 3 digital signature certificate is required. The Class 3 DSC can be purchased by individuals or companies for one, two, or three years from eMudhra, which is a registered CA. When purchasing a digital signature certificate, the entire registration process takes place online. 

Prerequisites for Securing DSC

Here are a few prerequisite conditions you need to fulfill before you can secure DSC from a CA:

• Make sure you understand the different DSC classes (Class 1, Class 2 and Class 3) and choose the appropriate one as per your requirements.

• To secure a DSC, you need to have identity proof, such as a valid Aadhaar card, Passport or PAN card.

• You must have submitted a duly filled application form with the Certifying Authority. The details in the form must be accurate and complete.

• You should’ve undergone the verification process and proved your identity to secure DSC electronically.

• Providing Address Proof is also necessary. For this, you can provide recent utility bills or rental agreements.

Steps involved in DSC Certificate Download Process

To download the DSC certificate from eMudhra, you need to complete the following steps:

• Step 1: Plug in the USB token on your personal computer or laptop.

• Step 2: Now, go to the “open files” option and then click on “ePass2003India.setup.exe.”

• Step 3: Now, choose the language before clicking on the “OK” option.

• Step 4: Click on the ‘Private CSP’ option to set up the ePass2003.

• Step 5: Click the ‘Install’ button. Once the installation is complete, click the ‘Finish’ button.

• Step 6: To download the DSC, set up a new PIN for the USB token.

• Step 7: Afterwards, search for the installed ‘ePass2003 Token Manager’ with the help of Windows search bar.

• Step 8: Enter the default PIN and proceed to click ‘Change User PIN’ to set a new one.

• Step 9: Visit the eMudhra website and click on the ‘Download Certificate’ option.

• Step 10: Enter the application number and the challenge code received on the registered mobile number.

• Step 11: Finally, enter the token password and click the ‘Agree and Download’ option.

After completion of all the steps, your DSC will be downloaded successfully.

Validity of DSC Certificate

D.S.C issued by eMudhra come with a validity of 1, 2 or 3 years. To maintain the validity of DSCs, you must renew them in a timely manner.
